About 5m children out of school in Khyber
PESHAWAR: About 5 million children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), are presently out of school, revealed in report issued by the provincial education ministry.
The provincial education department’s report on children out of the school system reveals that 37% of children in the province are deprived of education totaling 4.92 million.
The documents highlights that more than 800,000 children in Peshawar are not attending school while in Kolai Palas Kohistan region has the highest proration with 80,333 children out of school.
According to education authorities in lower Kohistan and upper Kohistan almost 79% children out of the school while in upper Chirtral has the lowest proration with only 10% children out of the school.
According to this issue, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Education Minister, Faisal Tarakai said 4.8 million children are out of school. The government is working to bring children into schools.
Faisal Taraki said last year 1.3 million children were enrolled in the school and this year the target almost 1 million students.
The KP report comes against the backdrop of a worsening national education crisis. In January, the Pakistan Education Statistics Report 2021–22 released by the Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) revealed that 26.2 million children were out of school across the country.
