Bus-Motorcycle Crash Claims Woman’s Life in Karachi

A woman lost her life on Monday in a road accident near Orangi Town No. 5 in Karachi when a bus collided with a motorcycle, according to the police.

Her body was taken to a hospital for necessary legal procedures. The police arrested the bus driver and registered a case against him. This brings the total number of deaths caused by bus accidents in Karachi this year to 10.

This incident is part of a larger issue involving a rising number of fatal accidents caused by heavy vehicles in the city. Data shows that 85 people have died in such accidents in just the first 104 days of this year.

The increasing number of deadly accidents has caused public anger and protests. In some cases, people have reacted by setting heavy vehicles on fire. Just last week, after a dumper truck hit and crushed two motorcycles in North Karachi, residents set multiple dumper trucks on fire in different areas.

On Sunday, a similar incident occurred in Gulshan-e-Iqbal near Disco Bakery, where a vehicle involved in an accident that killed one person was set ablaze by an angry crowd. Police arrested the driver and three others and also detained several people for torching the vehicle.

In response to the worsening situation, the Sindh government has imposed a daytime ban on heavy vehicle movement in Karachi and introduced stricter rules, including a 30 km/h speed limit for heavy transport vehicles.

Despite these efforts, reckless driving continues. On Sunday morning, a car involved in drifting at high speed near Sea View in Darakhshan lost control, overturned, and landed in the sea. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Rescue teams pulled the car out of the water, and the car owner has been called in by police for further investigation.
