The Meteorological Department has forecast thundershowers in the city on Monday.
According to the forecast of the Early Warning Centre of the Met Office, the westerly wave is engulfing the upper and central parts of the country and the effects of the said system are spreading to the southern parts of the country. Under the influence of the system, rain with thundershowers is likely in the city on Monday (May 5).
Strong winds are also expected in Karachi and most other areas of the province on Sunday and Monday. Furthermore, due to thunderstorms, hail, and lightning, weak structures, solar panels, vehicles, and electric poles may suffer damage.
Moreover, rain is expected in the districts of Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari and Jamshoro in rural Sindh on Sunday (today).
Second-hottest April in 65 years
Pakistan is grappling with intensifying effects of climate change and global warming, as evidenced by an extraordinary rise in temperatures during April – making it the second hottest April in the last 65 years.
According to PMD, the country experienced unusual weather extremes throughout the month. On April 17, Shaheed Benazirabad recorded the highest temperature in the country at a scorching 49°C.
The report highlights that April 2025 was the second hottest since 1959, with average temperatures 3.37°C.
