Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set a strict deadline for the completion of road rehabilitation and health centre upgrades across the province.

She has directed that all road repair and construction projects be finished by the end of the fiscal year, while the first phase of health centre renovations must be completed by 30 June, Express News reported.

During a special meeting, Maryam Nawaz reviewed progress on road and health development projects and instructed the Planning and Development Department to generate additional resources.

According to officials, under the road rehabilitation programme, 462 projects have been approved, with work initiated on 455. Over 25% of the work in the first phase has already been completed. In the second phase, 72 schemes were approved, with work started on 67, achieving 24% completion so far.

The review also covered the restoration of 1,236 basic health units across Punjab. Authorities reported that 75% of the work has been completed, with 54 units fully restored and 1,164 nearing completion.

Key tasks such as plastering, flooring, and finishing are progressing across multiple sites.

Maryam Nawaz emphasised that improved road connectivity will benefit millions and boost economic activities, particularly in rural areas.

She also highlighted that new ‘Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics’ will provide high-quality medical services to remote communities, ensuring rural residents receive healthcare facilities comparable to private urban clinics.

Moreover, Lahore has introduced dedicated lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists in a bid to improve road safety and traffic flow.

Officials say the initiative will help reduce accidents and ensure safer commuting for two-wheeler riders, Express News reported.

The project will be implemented in phases, eventually covering all major roads in the city.

In the first phase, a 10-kilometre bike lane is being constructed along Ferozepur Road, from Canal Road to Lahore Bridge. The lanes are being marked with a distinctive green colour to enhance visibility.

Authorities believe the adoption of this global urban infrastructure model will lead to fewer accidents and smoother traffic movement.

Punjab Chief Minister has instructed officials to ensure high-quality construction standards for the project.
