COAS and US delegation discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation

US delegation supports Pakistan’s emerging mineral economy

A high-level US delegation, headed by Eric Meyer, the Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, met with Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters on Wednesday.

The meeting took place in connection with Pakistan’s Mineral Investment Forum, the ISPR added.

Appreciating the first-of-its-kind forum, the delegation showed confidence in Pakistan’s policy to develop wide undeveloped mineral wealth through mutually beneficial partnerships.

Eric Meyer highlighted that mineral development is a key area of mutual interest between the US and Pakistan. He also showed interest in Pakistan’s gradually improving investment environment, reflecting the US administration’s focus on strengthening collaboration in this sector.

The meeting also afforded an opportunity to both sides for sharing perspective on global developments and Pakistan’s regional security imperatives.

“Both sides expressed confidence on the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and agreed on the need to explore B2B avenues in addition to expanding existing G2G and P2P cooperation for comprehensively strengthening the relationship,” it concluded.

A day ago, COAS Munir assured both local and international investors that the Pakistan Army would provide a strong security framework and take proactive steps to protect their interests, aiming to boost confidence in the country’s mineral sector.

Speaking at the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025, General Munir stressed that economic security is now a crucial part of national security. He affirmed that the military is fully prepared to support efforts in developing Pakistan’s mineral resources.

He highlighted Pakistan’s potential to become a global leader in the mineral sector and invited international organisations to bring their expertise, explore investment avenues, and collaborate in tapping the country’s vast resource base.

General Munir highlighted that Pakistan holds vast mineral reserves, has a skilled workforce, and follows a clear and transparent mineral policy. Given these strengths, he said there is no room for delay or setbacks. He assured both local and international investors that Pakistan is a reliable, confident, and trustworthy partner in the mining industry.
