Cops plead for witnesses to come forward after woman is ‘raped in broad daylight’

POLICE are hunting for two boys after a woman was seriously sexually assaulted in the middle of the day.

Officers were called to the village of Uffculme at around 3.40pm on Friday, April 18 after reports of a sexual assault.

But they are appealing for information on two boys who may have witnessed the attack.

Cops said they were cycling on a bridge or footpath near Bridge Street between 3.30 and 3.45pm.

A statement from the police read: “Detectives from Exeter CID would like to speak with them as they may hold vital information to assist with enquiries.

“They are also keen to hear from any other witnesses who have not yet spoken to police.

“Please contact us online or by telephone on 101, quoting crime reference 50250096463.

“Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling freephone 0800 555111.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said an 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault on a female and malicious communications.

The teenager, from Tiverton, has been released on bail until July as cops continue to investigate.

The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.
