Actor Danish Taimoor is facing heavy criticism after his recent comments on polygamy during a special Ramazan transmission sparked controversy. Appearing alongside former news anchor Rabia Anam, Taimoor casually spoke about men’s right to multiple marriages, a statement that did not sit well with many viewers.
He stated, “Men are permitted to have four marriages, but I haven’t done it yet—that’s a separate matter.” He further added, “I won’t do it because I love and respect my wife, even though I still have the right.”
Although he clarified that he had no intention of remarrying, his use of the word “filhaal” (for now) raised concerns, with critics accusing him of displaying entitlement rather than responsibility. One social media user remarked, “Men always remember their right to marry four times but conveniently ignore the conditions.”
Here’s how social media users are responding to her remarks:
Former model and host Frieha Altaf also condemned his remarks, stating, “Total disrespect to a wonderful, talented wife. Arrogant tone, self-absorbed attitude, and propagandist for misogyny and polygamy.”
As the backlash grew, an old video of Hamza Ali Abbasi discussing polygamy resurfaced, drawing praise for his balanced perspective. A user on X (formerly Twitter) commented, “In a world full of Danish Taimoors, be a Hamza Ali Abbasi.”
Taimoor has yet to address the controversy, but the debate continues, highlighting the importance of celebrities being mindful when discussing sensitive topics on national television.
