'Decentralisation panacea of all ills'

Awaam Pakistan Party (APP) Secretary Miftah Ismail has emphasized that the resolution of issues in K-P and Balochistan lies in granting "autonomy" to these provinces and taking measures to eradicate poverty. He stressed that problems should be addressed through dialogue rather than operations.

The menace of terrorism in the country has seen a surge this year, mainly in K-P and Balochistan. Several insurgent and terrorist groups are killing innocent people, security personnel and government officials.

Speaking exclusively to Express at his party's provincial secretariat in Karachi on Eid, Ismail criticized the PPP and MQM-P, stating that the latter's influence in Karachi is linked to Form 47. He alleged that PPP's rule benefits its own people rather than the general public.

He also announced that APP plans to hold a public rally in Karachi in May or June.

Addressing the increasing number of accidents and traffic issues in Karachi, Ismail blamed "poor administration" for the recurring mishaps in the metropolis.

"PPP has been in power in Sindh for 18 years, yet accidents occur daily, claiming the lives of citizens, including pregnant women. This is a result of government negligence," he asserted. He claimed that if the Sindh government wished, it could resolve these problems within three to four days.

Responding to a question, Ismail stated that MQM-P's political standing in Karachi is sustained through electoral mechanisms rather than public support. "MQM-P has disappointed the people of Karachi. MQM-P has lost its vote bank in the city," he said. The former finance minister also accused PPP of failing to serve the masses, stating that only party's inner circle benefits from its governance.

Discussing the country's economic situation, Ismail highlighted the worsening financial hardships faced by citizens. "The state of the economy is evident in the struggles of the people. Inflation has increased, and incomes have declined over the past three years. Due to the government's negligence, sugar prices have surged from Rs115 to Rs180 per kilogramme. Why did the government allow sugar exports?" he questioned.

On the issue of Balochistan, Ismail noted that people in the province feel alienated, suggesting that their grievances can be resolved through negotiations rather than operations.

He reiterated that granting autonomy and reducing poverty in K-P and Balochistan are key solutions to the provinces' problems. He also emphasized the need for action against terrorist organizations.

Last year in July, a number of disgruntled members from the country's mainstream parties, mostly from the ruling PML-N launched a new political party named APP, vowing to challenge the status quo and restore democracy.
