Govt plans new policy, enhances NAP to combat terrorism
The federal government has decided to create a national policy to tackle the increasing terrorism in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. They will also strengthen the National Action Plan (NAP) to fight terrorism more effectively.
The government will consult with parliamentary parties, provincial governments, and the military to take key measures and coordinated actions. Stricter steps will be taken against groups involved in attacks on security forces and working against the state.
The prime minister has held detailed discussions with important stakeholders about the recent rise in terrorist incidents, especially those targeting security forces.
During these discussions, it was decided that an in-camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security will be held soon to assess the situation. As part of the new policy, reforms will be proposed, and a final policy will be decided in the National Security Committee meeting. The government also plans to take parliament into confidence before finalizing the policy and will hold discussions with all relevant stakeholders.
The government is also considering a large-scale operation against terrorist groups in affected areas. However, there will be an option for these groups to surrender and accept the state’s authority. Any decision on negotiations will be made after consulting with stakeholders.
Another key decision is to raise concerns about India’s involvement and the use of Afghan soil in recent terrorist attacks at the international level. The government plans to take this issue to the United Nations and other global forums, urging them to press both countries to take action against terrorism.
The strategy for combating terrorism will have short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans. Security forces will be equipped with modern weapons and equipment, and emergency measures will be taken.
Additionally, the government may introduce development and employment programs for people living in terrorism-affected areas. The overall aim is to ensure long-term stability and security in the country.
