HBL PSL’s Indian TV crew expelled

LAHORE:

Around 23 Indian crew officials working in Pakistan Super League (PSL) were asked to leave Pakistan via Wagah amidst escalation in tension after the unfortunate Pahalgam terrorist attack, the sources said.

“On the directives of Pakistan’s interior ministry, some 23 crew members were escorted in strict security and were sent back to India via the Wagah border a couple of days back,” a police official confirmed to Telecomasia.net on condition of anonymity.

“Around eight crew members including some engineering and graphic workers are still working in the PSL matches but will leave this week,” the official said.

Since the inception of PSL in 2016, its broadcast largely depends on the skilled Indian, South African and Malaysian staff, especially in the camera and graphics work.

It may be mentioned here that both India and Pakistan have cancelled all the valid visas of the citizens travelling to the respective countries and have ordered them to leave in the next 48 hours. The steps have also cast doubts over the crew members of the PSL broadcast.

Earlier, in February 2019, the PSL had also come into trouble when the broadcasters IMG Reliance, the Indian broadcaster was covering the league in the UAE and the Pulwama attacks happened. The IMG withdrew from its contract as official production partner for the event.

PCB in return filed for compensation and that is still pending in the court.
