MORE than 100 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a London tower block as two flats have been engulfed in flames.
Fifteen fire engines rushed to the fire at around 5.45pm today after it erupted out of the two flats in Aldgate in the east of the city.
Terrifying footage shows the inferno pouring out of the fifth-floor balcony of the newly built block of flats.
Another fire had been spotted at a flat on the seventh floor of the same building.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) said in a statement earlier today: “Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters are tackling a flat fire on Leman Street in Aldgate.
“A fifth-floor flat is alight. Part of a second flat on the seventh floor is also alight.
“One of the Brigade’s 64-metre turntable ladders is being used as an observation tower, providing a vantage point for incident commanders to assess the incident.”
The first 15 calls to the fire were made at around 5.45pm, and were handled by LFB’s 999 Control Officers, the emergency service said.
Crews were mobilised from stations in Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch, Dowgate, Bethnal Green as were other surrounding units.
LFB says the cause of the fire is not known at this time.
