India suspends Indus Waters Treaty, asks Pakistanis to leave within 48 hours

In a major diplomatic move, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has ordered all Pakistani nationals to leave the country within 48 hours and announced the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.

During a press conference, the ministry confirmed that India is closing the Attari-Wagah border and that Pakistani citizens will no longer be allowed to enter the country under the SAARC visa exemption scheme.

The Indian government also announced it will recall all its defense attachés from Islamabad and is further downgrading diplomatic ties with Pakistan. The ministry stated that in 2019, relations were already scaled down from High Commissioner to Consular-level representation. Now, the number of diplomatic staff will be reduced from 55 to 30.

Additionally, Pakistani military advisors currently stationed in the Pakistani High Commission in India have been given one week to leave the country.

This escalation marks a significant deterioration in India-Pakistan relations, with both diplomatic and regional cooperation channels being severely impacted.
