Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Iranian Armed Forces, visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Monday and met with General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The two leaders discussed regional security issues and the strengthening of bilateral defense cooperation, according to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Upon his arrival at GHQ, Major General Bagheri paid tribute to Pakistan’s martyrs by laying a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
He was given a warm reception, which included a guard of honor by a contingent of the Pakistan Army.
Earlier in the day, Major General Bagheri met with President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where they discussed matters of mutual interest.
Both sides emphasized the long-standing and friendly relations between Pakistan and Iran, highlighting the importance of enhancing trade and economic ties for the benefit of both nations.
They also addressed the shared challenge of terrorism, stressing the need for coordinated actions to combat it effectively. The Iranian military chief also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s position on Gaza and Lebanon.
Major General Bagheri, who is leading a high-ranking military delegation, arrived in Islamabad on Sunday at the invitation of Army Chief General Asim Munir.
In comments to the Iranian media, he emphasized the importance of strengthening military and security relations between Iran and Pakistan, noting that both countries are strategically located in the sensitive regions of West and South Asia.
