Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a nationwide shutter-down strike on April 22 to express solidarity with the people of Gaza amid Israel’s ongoing offensive, Express News reported.

The announcement was made by JI leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman while addressing a large gathering during the “Palestine March” held in Karachi on Sunday.

“We will observe a complete shutdown across the country on April 22 in solidarity with Gaza. The Palestinian leadership has endorsed this action,” said Rehman. “We will also coordinate with other Islamic organisations across the Muslim world for a collective response on the same day,” he added.

He urged the public to continue the campaign to boycott international products and support the Palestinian cause through sustained action.

Outlining the party’s next steps, Rehman said that a special children’s march will be held, followed by a Gaza March in Multan on April 18 and another in Islamabad on April 20. “The Islamabad event will be the largest public gathering in the country’s history,” he claimed.

He also stated that letters are being sent to the heads of Islamic states and human rights organisations, appealing for support and decisive action against US policies backing Israel. “Karachi will lead this movement against the slaves of America. We will succeed in this struggle,” he added.
