The first confirmed case of monkeypox (Mpox) in Sindh has been reported in Karachi, health department sources revealed on Saturday.
According to sources, a patient admitted to Jinnah Hospital was diagnosed with monkeypox after his samples were sent to Dow Hospital for laboratory testing. The results confirmed the presence of the virus, making it the first verified case in the province.
Health officials stated that the patient’s test results returned positive, adding that his wife had a recent travel history abroad. She initially exhibited symptoms of monkeypox before her husband contracted the infection.
The patient, a 28-year-old resident of Shah Latif Town, Karachi, has been placed in an isolation ward, and strict precautionary measures have been implemented to prevent further spread of the virus.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to health guidelines to curb the transmission of monkeypox in the region.
