Lahore achieved a historic milestone by securing a spot among the world’s safest cities in Numbeo’s 2025 Crime and Safety Index, surpassing major global capitals like New York, London, and Paris, News reported.

The report highlighted that Lahore improved its crime index, placing 37th on the Global Crime Index and 63rd among the world’s safest cities, outperforming 249 international urban centers.

According to Numbeo, Lahore achieved this unprecedented success by implementing enhanced crime-fighting strategies, marking the first time in the city’s history that it has recorded such a sharp decline in crime.

The report credits data-driven policing and strict accountability measures for driving the transformation. Official statistics show that reported crimes dropped by 50%, falling from 67,585 cases between April 2023 and April 2024 to 34,091 in the following year.

Specific crime categories recorded substantial reductions: authorities reduced robberies and murders by 64%, general robberies by 55%, motorcycle theft by 33%, street snatching by 42%, car theft by 33%, and other vehicle thefts by 39%.

The report also highlights that authorities enforced rigorous departmental accountability by disciplining over 400 officers and imprisoning four Station House Officers (SHOs) in their stations for proven misconduct.

In an earlier development, officials decided to launch Pakistan’s first high-speed bullet train between Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi chaired the meeting, where they announced the launch of Pakistan’s first high-speed bullet train between Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Lahore Parking Company introduced traceable parking tickets, marking a significant step toward refining parking management and eradicating fake parking slips. This new system ensures transparency and accountability in the collection of parking fees.
