KARACHI:

Two significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed on Saturday to strengthen the livestock and agriculture sectors in Sindh, while a stall of value-added dairy products set up by the Sindh Agriculture University delighted visitors at the three-day Sindh Livestock Expo 2025 & DALFA Cattle Show, held at Expo Centre Karachi.

The first, a tripartite agreement, was signed between the Livestock & Fisheries Department, Thar Foundation, and Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam. Dr Kazim Hussain Jatoi, Sindh Secretary of the Livestock & Fisheries Department; the CEO of Thar Foundation; and Dr Altaf Ali Siyal, Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, formalised a partnership focused on enhancing training, research, and capacity building in the region.

This collaboration also includes the Livestock Improvement Project (LIP) 2025-2026, a joint initiative by the Thar Foundation, the Livestock & Fisheries Department, and Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, aimed at improving livestock management practices in the area.

The second MoU, signed between the Livestock & Fisheries Department and Uthal University of Agriculture, Water & Marine Sciences, marks another significant step in advancing agricultural practices in Sindh. Dr Kazim Hussain Jatoi and the Vice Chancellor of Uthal University represented their respective organisations, pledging to collaborate on research and service delivery initiatives.

Thar Foundation, with its vision of enhancing the quality of life in Tharparkar through sustainable development and its mission to transform Islamkot into a model tehsil, is at the forefront of these efforts to promote innovation, improve local skills, and deliver essential support to the community.

Meanwhile, Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam made a notable impact at the Sindh Livestock Expo 2025 by showcasing innovative and value-added dairy and meat products at its exhibition stall, which drew significant interest from visitors.

The Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences’ Department of Animal Products Technology displayed a diverse range of products, including buttermilk (lassi), mozzarella cheese, desi ghee, butter, guava- and date-flavoured ice creams, date- and strawberry-flavoured yogurt, flavoured milk, whey beverages in multiple flavours, meatballs, shami kababs, and traditional sweets including kulfa, gulab jamun, and barfi.
