Nintendo Switch 2 set to launch globally on June 5
Nintendo has officially announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released worldwide on June 5, 2025. The announcement was made during a special Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025.
The new console comes with several upgrades, including a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution, HDR support, and a 120Hz refresh rate, making the visuals smoother and more vibrant. It also features increased internal storage of 256GB, allowing players to store more games and media.
A major change in the new design is the redesigned Joy-Con controllers, which now attach magnetically. They also include a new “C” button that enhances interactive chat and screen-sharing features.
At launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 will come with exciting new games, including “Mario Kart World,” which introduces an open-world mode, giving players the freedom to explore levels at their own pace.
Nintendo has scheduled a “Mario Kart Direct” event on April 17, 2025, to reveal more details about the game. Another launch title, “Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour,” is designed to help players familiarize themselves with the new system’s features.
The console will also support most physical and digital games from the original Switch, allowing players to continue enjoying their existing libraries. However, some older games may not be fully compatible.
To give fans a chance to try out the new system, Nintendo will host “Switch 2 Experience” events in major cities like Los Angeles, New York, London, and Paris, starting this month.
Pre-order details have not yet been announced, and Nintendo has advised fans to stay tuned to their official channels for updates.
