PAC urges action against government scholarship holders who fail to return
ISLAMABAD: The Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday decided to take action against students who study abroad on government scholarships but fail to return.
PTI’s Junaid Akbar chaired the PAC session to address the issue.
Audit officials objected that the government needs to recover approximately 1.5 billion rupees from scholarship beneficiaries who failed to return.
Chairman PAC stated that government scholarship beneficiaries go abroad for studies, but disappear instead. “Rather than completing their studies, they take up jobs abroad,” he said. He urged authorities to take punitive action against these fugitive students.
Junaid Akbar recommended publishing the names of fugitive students in the media and canceling their passports. He also urged authorities to register FIRs against students who benefited from government scholarships but failed to return.
