Pakistan breaks 34-year test record in dominant win over West Indies

MULTAN: Pakistan’s men’s cricket team achieved a historic milestone on Sunday with a 127-run victory over the West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

The match, which concluded in less than three days despite a weather-interrupted opening, set a new record as the shortest Test in Pakistan’s history to yield a result in terms of balls bowled. A total of 1,064 deliveries were bowled across four innings, breaking the previous record of 1,080 balls in a 1990 clash between Pakistan and West Indies.

Additionally, West Indies recorded their lowest number of balls faced in a Test match at just 371 deliveries, significantly lower than their previous low of 450 against England in Leeds in 2000.

The Test also saw individual milestones for Pakistan’s players. Spinner Sajid Khan achieved his 50th Test wicket by dismissing West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite, becoming the third-fastest Pakistani bowler to reach this landmark. Sajid accomplished this feat in just his 11th Test, joining the ranks of Yasir Shah (nine matches) and a group tied for second, including Waqar Younis and Mohammad Abbas.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan completed 100 Test dismissals, finishing the match with 107 in 64 innings. He now ranks among Pakistan’s top wicketkeeping legends, trailing only Wasim Bari (228 dismissals), Kamran Akmal (206), Sarfaraz Ahmed (182), Moin Khan (147), and Rashid Latif (130).

This historic performance underscores Pakistan’s strength as a formidable force in international cricket.
