Pakistan launches helpline for Hajj pilgrims amid air travel disruption
Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has set up a helpline to aid Hajj pilgrims with updated information regarding their flight schedules.
Amid rising tensions with neighboring India, air travel from Pakistan has been disrupted, affecting flight operations across the country.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has advised Hajj pilgrims to stay updated about their travel plans by calling 051-9216980, which is available 24/7.
Although Hajj flights from Pakistan have already begun and thousands of pilgrims have reached Saudi Arabia, the recent aerial conflict between India and Pakistan has caused disruptions. Some flights have been cancelled or rerouted due to the temporary closure of airspace in both countries.
Aviation experts warn that if tensions continue, it could impact the ongoing Hajj operations, as flights may be unable to depart from Pakistan. There is no official confirmation yet, but the situation remains uncertain due to the heightened conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations.
For this year, as many as over 110,000 pilgrims from Pakistan would land in Saudi Arabia for Hajj if the flight operation goes as planned. International players including the US are calling on both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and maintain regional stability; however, barbs are being traded between the two sides at the moment.
