The Pakistan Business Council (PBC) Dubai on Wednesday outlined its strategic roadmap for strengthening trade, investment, and cultural ties between Pakistan and the UAE.
The initiative was discussed during a meeting at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai, a statement from the consulate said.
“PBC aims to strengthen the relationship between Pakistan and UAE through collaborative efforts in trade, investment, and cultural exchanges,” said Shabbir Merchant, chairman of PBC Dubai. He added that the council is committed to fostering mutual growth and deeper connections between the two nations.
Hussain Muhammad, Pakistan’s consul general in Dubai, praised PBC’s efforts to promote Pakistan’s economic potential in the UAE. He urged business leaders to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s diverse sectors, including IT, manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism.
“Pakistan offers immense potential for investment and trade, with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) providing a single window to facilitate investors,” the consul general said.
The SIFC, a civil-military initiative launched in June 2023, is focused on attracting international investment in key sectors such as tourism, mining, agriculture, and infrastructure.
Merchant also highlighted PBC’s commitment to building partnerships for mutual benefit. In recent years, Pakistan and the UAE have intensified efforts to enhance bilateral business relations, signing agreements worth over $3 billion in early 2023 for projects in railways, economic zones, and infrastructure.
The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner after China and the United States, with foreign investment from the Emirates exceeding $10 billion over the past two decades, according to the UAE foreign ministry. The Gulf nation also hosts over a million Pakistani expatriates.
The meeting concluded with calls to use the PBC as a bridge for fostering new partnerships and expanding existing ones between the two countries.
