PM Shehbaz Sharif urges boost in local edible oil production, agricultural growth
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged authorities to accelerate efforts to increase local production of edible oil, reducing reliance on imports.
During a meeting on agriculture and food security, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural growth by providing necessary resources and research support. He emphasized the importance of innovation, directing authorities to involve young agricultural researchers for fresh insights into the sector.
To maintain quality standards, the PM also ordered a crackdown on companies selling substandard seeds. Additionally, he instructed the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) to intensify research activities to advance agricultural innovations.
The modernization of farming practices, including mechanization, was highlighted as a priority. The meeting also discussed the closure process of the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) and strategies to boost agricultural exports.
Officials provided updates on the National Agri-Trade and Food Safety Authority, which is nearing completion. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain and other senior officials attended the session, reaffirming their dedication to strengthening Pakistan’s agricultural sector and food security.
