Prime Minister says scope of digital wallets to be expanded across country

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that the scope of digital wallets would be expanded across the country and the provinces would be integrated into the digital payment system through a coordinated framework.

The prime minister, addressing a ceremony to acknowledge individuals showing outstanding performance in the success of the Prime Minister’s Ramazan Relief Package, said that modern payment methods enabled smooth transfer of funds and these payments were made transparently while maintaining the dignity of deserving individuals.

The prime minister said that funds were now being transferred quickly and clearly through digital wallets. He mentioned that 79% of the funds under the programme were distributed using digital methods. He pointed out that the old way of making payments had many problems, but these issues have now been fixed by using the modern digital system.

The prime minister also said that the steps taken to modernize the system have shown good results. He hinted that in the future, digital wallets would be used even more across the whole country. Provinces would also become part of this digital payment system through a connected framework.

He promised that next year, 100% of the funds would be distributed through digital methods to make the process even more efficient and transparent.

During the ceremony, Amir Ahmed Ali, the Secretary of the Benazir Income Support Programme, gave a full briefing about the PM Ramazan Relief Package and how digital wallets are being used to improve the distribution of funds.

On the occasion, the prime minister gave away honourary shields to officers from public and private organizations who played a significant role in implementing the PM Ramazan Relief Package.
