Prince Rahim Aga Khan offers mediation amid Pakistan-India tensions
ISLAMABAD: Expressing deep concern over escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, Prince Rahim Aga Khan, known as the Aga Khan V, has formally offered to mediate between the two countries to help defuse the situation and prevent further loss of life.
According to a foreign news agency, Prince Rahim has sent letters to the Prime Ministers of both Pakistan and India, urging both sides to pursue a peaceful resolution.
In his letter, he emphasized his deep concern over the growing hostility and expressed hope that the issue would be resolved peacefully, without further human casualties.
Additionally, Prince Rahim has written to the United Nations Secretary-General, requesting the UN to play a constructive role in facilitating dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
It is worth noting that the late Prince Karim Aga Khan IV also played a mediatory role during a past conflict between Pakistan and India, leveraging his diplomatic stature to promote peace in the region.
Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Saturday called on President Asif Ali Zardari here at Aiwan-e-Sadr and briefed the president about the Indian aggression and effective response being given to India by Pakistan in the form of Operation Bunyan-al- Marsous.
The President lauded the exceptional professionalism and bravery of the Armed Forces of the country for giving a befitting response to Indian unprovoked aggression and missile attacks.
