Punjab to install cameras in schools for enhanced security

The Punjab Education Department has decided to install security cameras and advanced surveillance systems in schools across the province to strengthen safety measures.

Security cameras will be placed at school entrances to monitor activities, using facial recognition technology to identify students and teachers. Additionally, the department will receive daily reports from the surveillance system for improved administration and oversight.

These cameras will help in identifying individuals accurately and preventing unauthorised access, theft, and vandalism. They will also monitor high-risk areas like entrances, hallways, and playgrounds. In emergencies, real-time footage will assist authorities in taking swift action.

In Lahore, where schools accommodate large student populations, these security enhancements are particularly significant.

Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Education Department has banned educational field trips, tours, and picnics in government schools. A notification from the Elementary and Secondary Education Department instructs all public schools, including those in merged districts, to comply with this restriction.

District Education Officers (DEOs) have been directed to strictly enforce the ban. Officials believe that prohibiting off-campus activities will reduce security risks, keep students in a controlled environment, and allow schools to focus on internal safety measures.

The move aims to ensure a safer learning environment for students and staff, particularly in regions facing security challenges.
