Rory McIlroy helps punter turn ‘stunning’ £23 bet into £25K with Masters, Grand National and Lincoln treble

THEY say good things come to those who wait.

And one canny punter has proven just that after landing a colossal £25k from a mere £23.72 stake with William Hill!

The Irish-based bettor completed not one, but TWO sensational betting trebles across golf and horse racing’s biggest events — the Masters, the Grand National, and the William Hill Lincoln Handicap.

The punter’s first bet?

An £11.86 each-way win treble on Rory McIlroy (6/1) to win the Masters, Nick Rockett (20/1) in the Grand National, and Godwinson (14/1) in the William Hill Lincoln.

All three duly obliged in astonishing fashion.

Godwinson kickstarted the run, edging a thrilling photo finish in the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster to kick off the British flat racing season with a bang.

Then it was over to Aintree, where Patrick Mullins steered Nick Rockett to Grand National glory when storming clear to clinch one of the most memorable Nationals in recent memory.

And finally, all eyes turned to Augusta with everything hinging on Rory McIlroy – and it certainly wouldn’t be a comfortable watch!

It was an extraordinary Sunday in Georgia with McIlroy at one stage holding a five-shot lead over the field before being pulled back.

He had a chance to complete his career grand slam only to miss a regulation putt from 5ft – teeing up a sudden-death play-off against Englishman Justin Rose.

But the Northern Irishman held his nerve to send golf fans – and one very happy punter – into ecstasy.

Not done there, the mystery bettor also placed another £11.86 each-way place treble, swapping in Iroko (who placed in fourth in the Grand National) for Nick Rockett, and again struck gold.

The windfall left bookmakers reeling, with William Hill paying out over £25k!

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Whilst single bets on Rory McIlroy to win the Masters have cost us well into seven figures, we’ve been stung by another bet featuring the superstar Northern Irishman.

“A very shrewd punter pulled off a bettor’s dream with McIlroy finally doing the business at Augusta, Nick Rockett landing the Grand National and Godwinson holding on in the dying strides to win the William Hill Lincoln.

“And that’s not all. The customer also placed a successful each-way place treble featuring McIlroy, Godwinson, and in this bet, Iroko, all to place in their respective competitions.

“In total, the bettor has pulled off a pair of famous spring trebles and taken us for over £25,000. We simply have to take our hats off to the punter here – there’s nothing quite like backing the winner in three major spring sporting events!”
