Several terrorists killed as security forces foil attack on checkpost in KP

The Pakistan Army successfully stopped a terrorist attack on a checkpost in South Waziristan’s Jandola area on Thursday. Security forces killed around eight to nine militants after a suicide bomber blew himself up in a vehicle near an FC camp.

Right after the explosion, heavy gunfire was heard in the area. Security sources confirmed that the attackers tried to storm the checkpost, but the army pushed them back.

This attack happened just a day after security forces carried out an operation against terrorists who had hijacked the Jaffar Express train in Balochistan’s Bolan district.

The militants had blown up the railway tracks and opened fire on the train, which was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar. They took several passengers hostage in the mountainous region. In response, security forces launched an operation, killing all 33 attackers. However, 21 hostages lost their lives, and four security personnel were martyred. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for this attack.

Pakistan has seen a significant rise in terrorist attacks, especially in January 2025.

According to a security think tank, attacks increased by 42% compared to the previous month. A total of 74 militant attacks were reported across the country, resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Another 117 people were injured.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the most affected region, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s settled districts, militants carried out 27 attacks, killing 19 people, including security personnel and civilians. In the tribal districts, 19 attacks took place, leading to 46 deaths. Balochistan also saw a surge in militant activity, with 24 attacks that claimed 26 lives.

The country also witnessed two suicide bombings in January, both in Balochistan. One attack was claimed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), while the other was carried out by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). The rise in attacks has raised concerns about security, particularly in KP and Balochistan.
