The Best Cooling Clothes If You Hate ‘Summer Fashion’

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, HuffPost UK may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI ― prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

Every year it happens, and every year I’m in shock ― sweat stains start to appear on my beloved winter garms, and I’m forced to accept that it’s time I bought A Summer Wardrobe.

I’ll be honest; I usually hate it. I’m much more of a winter clothes girl (I love their muted tones, layers, and boxy cuts), but I think I might despise perspiring in my baggy jeans even more.

Thankfully, Dickies, whose new summer collection is so functional that its effortless stylishness seems almost accidental, has all the answers.

The collection, inspired in part by vintage workshop uniforms and signage, includes quietly airy oversized tees and deliciously worn denim (the Carpenter range is probably my favourite).

The brand doesn’t shout about clever design features, like the cooling wide base of its washed denim Carpenter shorts or the breathable stretch built into its Virginia work shirt.

Instead, the problems of summer clothing are subtly, breezily addressed; the right material here, a ventilatingly large sleeve hem there.

I mean, it makes sense when you think about it.

The brand’s commitment to workwear-inspired clothing means its offerings must be as useful as they are gorgeous (the most successful items, in our view, are the ones that most directly correspond to Dickies’ “on the job-chic” identity).

Their perfect-over-a-summer-dress slim-fit denim jacket and slyly breathable coveralls are perfect examples.

If you, like me, are in denial about the clothing demands of summer, crave a low-effort wardrobe that won’t leave you boiling, and (most importantly) want to say “what, this? Oh, I just threw it on!” as many times as possible this year, we reckon you can’t do much better.
