A TODDLER has been mauled by a dog in a horror attack at a birthday party.
The young child, believed to be between two and three years old, was rushed to hospital this afternoon for head and arm injuries.
Their injuries have been described by police as not life-threatening.
The attack took place in Hardwick, Stockton-On-Tees, Teesside and the toddler was swiftly taken to the University Hospital of North Tees.
Officers were called to Chopwell Close following the incident and seized an animal.
It has been taken to specialist kennels, while officers and crime experts investigate.
Police are yet to confirm the breed of the dog, but witnesses reported seeing a Pitbull-cross.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police, said: “Police were called to a property on Chopwell Close in Hardwick, Stockton, this afternoon after it was reported that a child had been attacked by a dog.
“Officers attended the scene and secured the dog safely, without any harm to the animal, and removed it from the premises.
“The dog has been taken to specialist dog kennels.”
