Russia is on course to have suffered one million casualties in the Ukraine war, according to UK intelligence.
The Ministry of Defence’s latest update on the conflict revealed that Moscow has likely 950,000 of its service personnel either killed or injured since it invaded its neighbour in 2022.
Meanwhile, 2025 will be the costliest year for the Russian army if the current casualty rate continues, the MoD said.
In the first four months of the year, Russia has seen 160,000 of its troops either killed or injured – with 36,000 of those in April alone.
But the MoD added: “So far in 2025, Russia has not been able to translate continued heavy losses into significant advances into Ukraine.”
The British officials said interest rates in the country are at a staggering 21% right now, their highest level in more than 20 years.
