US delegation meets COAS Gen Asim Munir, vows to strengthen bilateral ties

A high-level delegation from the United States Congress met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Sunday to discuss matters of mutual interest, with a special focus on regional security and defense cooperation.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the delegation was led by the Honorable Jack Bergman, accompanied by Representatives Thomas Suozzi and Jonathan Jackson.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in detailed discussions on issues of mutual concern. The talks highlighted the importance of continued engagement based on mutual respect, shared values, and strategic interests.

The US lawmakers praised the role of Pakistan’s armed forces in the fight against terrorism and acknowledged Pakistan’s sustained efforts in promoting regional peace and stability. They also lauded the resilience of the Pakistani people and the strategic capabilities of the nation.

The delegation reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing broad-based bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in various sectors, including security, trade, investment, and economic development, while respecting Pakistan’s sovereignty.

General Asim Munir appreciated the delegation’s visit and expressed Pakistan’s desire to deepen and diversify its longstanding relations with the United States, built on mutual interests and respect.

The ISPR further stated that the meeting also saw the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) related to training cooperation in the field of Information Technology.
