During an interview on Gup Shab with Vasay Chaudhry, model and actor Vaneeza Ahmed was asked if she likes taking her own photos, which took her back to an old controversy involving remarks on celebrities’ social media presence. “Last time I answered this question, I got into so much trouble,” she began.
Recalling a 2022 interview with Naumaan Ijaz, she said, “I said then that I’m from a time when other people used to take our photos. We weren’t used to taking our own photos. And I’m not the type of person to have an obsession with myself.”
She reminisced about her time on the set of Kuch Ankahi, where she came across co-star Mira Sethi impersonating an animal on TikTok. This led to Vaneeza confessing that, a few years ago, she couldn’t even tell the difference between TikTok and Instagram or reels and Stories.
She then segued into discussing the profile of a “model-actress” that she came across back then. “Her name began with an ‘A’. I didn’t know who she was, and she had over 11 million followers. Naumaan chimed in and told me it was Ayeza Khan. Now, I know who Ayeza is. I wasn’t even talking about her. But soon after, her 11 million followers became my haters. They thought I was criticising her, even though I hadn’t even mentioned her.”
Back in October 2022, Vaneeza along with Adeel Husain made an appearance on the talk show G Sarkar, where she raised objections over how showbiz personalities manage their social media accounts.
While speaking about her own online presence, she said, “Do you think we’re the kind of people who’d take selfies all the time? I think it’s a hassle to document what you’re eating, what you’re drinking, and what you’re doing.”
The Ehde Wafa actor then critiqued an actor whose name she could not remember. “I went to her profile to see what big achievements she has to have that kind of following.” However, what Vaneeza saw on the profile disappointed her. “Just pictures of that woman, nothing else. Where is your contribution, that’s what matters. So what if you have 12 million followers?”
When questioned about the number of followers she has, Vaneeza admitted that she doesn’t even remember. Her Instagram is mostly handled by her niece and when the model does take control, she ends up posting a quote or verse that she’d like to share with her audience.
