Watch as MAFS Australia bride has brutal response to groom’s heartbreaking letter about his sister’s health diagnosis

MARRIED at First Sight Australia took an emotional turn as groom Elliot bared his soul in a deeply personal letter – only to be met with a brutal reaction from his bride, Veronica.

As part of the “crash course” task designed to fast-track new couples’ relationships, contestants were asked to write a heartfelt letter revealing their most significant life experience.

For Elliot, this meant opening up about his younger sister Bridie’s health battle – a story he had never shared before.

He confessed: “It would have had to be one of my most deep and harrowing memories. Something that affected me so much in my childhood and is deeply personal.”

In the letter, Elliot recalled the moment his nine-year-old self sat in a hospital specialist’s office with his mother, as his sister was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and fell into a coma.

He read: “The news hit us like a ton of bricks. My mum burst into tears, which inevitably led to me joining her in a choir of uncontrollable sobbing.

“He immediately comforted her. He engaged with the doctor about the treatment and in that moment my dad’s strength and stoicism set us on a path forward.”

Elliot explained that this event shaped how he processes emotions today, adding: “The impact this memory has on me is that I never want to be overwhelmed by emotion.

“Like anyone, I feel things – I just do my best to identify and understand them rather than be controlled by them.”

But instead of the emotional connection he may have hoped for, Veronica’s reaction was shockingly indifferent.

She responded with a chuckle: “Cute. Thank you for sharing. That was very nice.”

The personal trainer soon burst into laughter in a confessional, holding her head in her hands.

She fumed: “This was the perfect opportunity for him to just tell me something, anything.”

Her apparent disappointment stunned E4 viewers, with many taking to social media to slam her reaction.

One fan tweeted: “So ummm….Veronica is a psychopath…agreed? F**k me I actually felt bad for Elliot then.”

Another added: “Never thought I would side with elliot but there you go, this is awful… this shows why its hard for men to open up sometimes.”

Someone else said: “Didn’t know there was someone who could make Elliot look much much less than an a*****e than them.”

Elliott and Veronica’s struggles weren’t limited to the letter task – tensions between the pair had been brewing for some time.

From the moment they met at the altar, there were signs they weren’t a perfect match.

While Elliott appeared smitten, Veronica seemed hesitant, later admitting to the other brides that she wasn’t physically attracted to him.

“He’s a nice guy, but I don’t feel that spark,” she confided.

Their honeymoon only added to the cracks in their relationship.

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

During a romantic dinner, Elliott made an awkward joke about their future together, which Veronica didn’t appreciate.

He had said: “Well, at least we’ll have a great divorce party when this is all over!”

She later told the cameras: “I don’t know if he’s being serious or just saying things to fill the silence, but it’s not working for me.”

Back in Sydney, things didn’t improve.

At the first dinner party, Elliott’s social nature clashed with Veronica’s more reserved personality.

When he attempted to lighten the mood with jokes, Veronica became visibly irritated, rolling her eyes and whispering to some of the other brides.

Their tension didn’t go unnoticed, with fellow contestant Jade later saying: “They just don’t seem to be on the same page.”

By the time the first commitment ceremony arrived, the experts were already questioning whether they had a future together.

Veronica admitted she was struggling to connect, while Elliott defended himself, insisting he was putting in the effort.

In a surprising twist, both decided to stay in the experiment – though it was clear that their journey was going to be far from smooth sailing.
