The wife of an active-duty US Coast Guard member was arrested at the Naval Air Station in Key West, Florida, on Thursday after being flagged during a routine security check.
Immigration officials detained the woman, who had been living with her husband at the base, due to an expired visa.
The woman’s work visa, which expired in 2017, had been flagged for removal several years ago
. The arrest occurred as the couple was preparing to move into on-base housing.
During a security check at the visitor control center, her name was flagged, leading to an investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
Authorities eventually took her into custody for immigration violations.
