Zelensky party’s former MP calls gayness a ‘mental illness’ — RT Russia & Former Soviet Union

Identifying with LGBTQ+ culture is not the norm but a psychophysiological deviation, Mariana Bezuglaya has stated

Ukrainian lawmaker Mariana Bezuglaya, a former member of Vladimir Zelensky’s political party, has said that being gay is a deviation from the norm and an illness like any other, and that the promotion of the LGBTQ+ agenda is unacceptable.

In a statement on X on Monday, Bezuglaya, who was once a member of the ‘Servant of the People’ party, compared being born gay to having psoriasis or to being allergic to penicillin – conditions that accompany a person throughout their life, impose certain limitations on personal realization, and require support.

She further stated that she has nothing against such people and is categorically against discrimination, but also does not support the growing trend of introducing gay quotas and inclusivity in Ukraine and worldwide.

“The promotion of deviations as the norm and the substitution of concepts, in my opinion, are unacceptable,” the MP wrote, adding “Homo sapiens has only two sexes: male and female.”

Bezuglaya claimed that a homosexual person likely will not or may not want to have children and, therefore, could drop out of the process of natural selection and the transfer of their genetics to future generations.

In response, Ukraine’s LGBTQ+ Military Personnel issued a statement on Instagram, condemning the MP’s “discriminatory” remarks.

These not only insult thousands of service members “risking their lives daily for Ukraine,” according to the statement, but also contradict scientific facts and undermine the country’s EU-integration efforts.

The statement pointed out that the World Health Organization has removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders more than 30 years ago and that leading medical and psychiatric associations recognize LGBTQ+ identities as natural variations of human sexuality.

Ukrainian MP named on state-backed ‘kill list’

When lawmakers spread “false narratives” about LGBTQ+ people being “abnormal” and “sick” they sabotage Ukraine’s path toward EU membership and “fuel doubts” about Ukraine’s readiness to join the European community, the statement argued.

Zelensky’s adviser Dmitry Litvin also commented on Bezuglaya’s post on Monday, claiming there aren’t many people who think she is normal. “So please be careful with this topic and don’t offend people,” he wrote.

Bezuglaya in turn suggested that Litvin better sort out the problems in the army, after which he accused her of violating the boundaries of competence, to which she responded with a question: “Are you gay?”

Currently a People’s Deputy of Ukraine, representing Ukraine’s 217th electoral district, Bezuglaya left the ‘Servant of the People’ party and its parliamentary faction in 2024, accusing her former fellow party members of “sabotaging” the national security and defense sector.

Bezuglaya, who is 36, holds a medical degree and has worked in a clinic and at the frontline.

In July 2024, she was blacklisted by the notorious Ukrainian website Mirotvorets for repeatedly criticizing the country’s senior military officials.
