Actor Abhishek Bachchan has carved a space for himself in the industry today, but his early career was filled with challenges. As the son of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, he faced constant comparisons and a string of box office failures that made him question his future in the industry. At one point, he even considered quitting acting altogether, but a conversation with his father changed everything.
Speaking to Nayandeep Rakshit on his YouTube channel, Abhishek shared his struggles, admitting that he wasn’t “able to achieve whatever I wanted to achieve and match the standards that I had set for myself.” Frustrated, he decided to step away from films.
“I remember going to my father one night and saying that I have made a mistake and no matter what I am trying, it is not working. Maybe, this is the way of the world telling me that this is not for you,” he recalled. However, Amitabh Bachchan, offering advice as both a mentor and a father, encouraged him to persist.
“I am telling you as an actor and not your father, you have a long way to go, you are nowhere near the finished product but you are improving with every film. Just keep working and you will get there,” Big B told him.
As Abhishek was leaving, his father added a final piece of wisdom: “I did not bring you up to be a quitter, so keep fighting.”
Reflecting on failure, Abhishek shared, “Failure is an integral step to success. Without failure, there’s never going to be success.”
After debuting in 2000 with Refugee, which underperformed, Abhishek faced multiple flops before finding success with Dhoom in 2004. He later gained acclaim for films like Yuva, Dus, Bluffmaster, and Dostana. His latest film, Be Happy, premiered on Amazon Prime Video on March 14.
