Governor Sindh requests CJP to take notice of rising traffic accidents  

KARACHI: Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori wrote a letter to Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, requesting him to take notice of the rising cases of traffic accidents in Karachi.

A letter from Governor Sindh states that the accidents related to the tankers and dumpers in Karachi are increasing alarmingly, with more than 70 deaths reported so far in the accidents in 2025.

Governor Sindh wrote in his letter stated that couple and their newborn child, who was given birth to on the road after the accident, lost their lives in the incident. He referred to the prior correspondence with the Sindh High Court’s (SHC) former chief justice (February 6) and acting chief justice (February 14), in which they were requested to ensure the strict implementation of the SHC’s directives, and to take notice of the administrative lapses leading to fatal accidents.

Kamran Tessori demanded that the Sindh High Court orders ensure the implementation of the orders and said that effective steps are needed to secure the lives of the citizens of Karachi.

Earlier, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader and Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the Sindh Assembly, Taha Ahmed Khan, has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, urging him to take suo motu notice of the rising number of deadly traffic accidents in Karachi.

In his letter, Taha expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a pregnant woman, her husband, and their child, who was forced to be born prematurely due to the accident, in the recent Malir Halt incident.

He stated that since the beginning of 2025, 207 people have died and 2,623 have been injured in traffic accidents across Karachi.

The demanded strict measures against those responsible for the Malir Halt tragedy.
