Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Sunday urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to prioritize national interests during discussions with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
During a meeting held in Jati Umra, the two leaders deliberated on various political and national matters. Nawaz and Shehbaz acknowledged the government’s efforts in driving the country’s economic progress.
Prime Minister Shehbaz briefed the three-time former premier about the country’s economic and political situation. Both leaders also recognized the recent decline in inflation, with Nawaz expressing satisfaction over the relief provided to the public.
Separately, at the beginning of 2025, PM Shehbaz chaired a federal cabinet meeting where he reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving economic stability and growth.
The prime minister expressed optimism about the economy, stating that it has now stabilized and is ready for a “takeoff.” He emphasized the need to boost exports to further drive development and highlighted improvements in economic indicators over the past nine months.
“Even the common man acknowledges the economic progress achieved in nine months,” Shehbaz said, adding that no scandals have emerged during his administration’s tenure.
However, he criticized political sit-ins for hindering economic progress and acknowledged that some targets set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were not met.
The prime minister also emphasized the importance of the recently launched “Uran Pakistan” program, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening the economy.
“To achieve Pakistan’s economic development, we all must play our part,” PM Shehbaz remarked, reaffirming the government’s focus on bringing stability and aligning priorities towards economic growth.
