Raj Kumar Gupta hints at 'Raid 3' after Ajay Devgn’s 'Raid 2'

Ajay Devgn is gearing up to reprise his iconic role as Amay Patnaik in “Raid 2,” the much-anticipated sequel to his 2018 hit. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the film already has strong momentum, especially after the trailer received an overwhelmingly positive response. As for a potential third installment, Gupta says he’ll consider “Raid 3” only after the release of the upcoming film.

During an interview, Raj Kumar Gupta discussed “Raid 2” and addressed the possibility of “Raid 3”. Smiling, he said, “Let’s release “Raid 2” first.” He emphasized that a filmmaker’s priority is to ensure a timely release and shared that he looks forward to the audience’s positive reaction once the film is out.

Raj Kumar Gupta shared that Raid 2 took two and a half years of his time. “We wrote this film for one and a half years, though it’s based on a real-life story. This time, we have tried to bring in a lot of fictional elements as well,” he mentioned.

However, the filmmaker revealed that he has some scripts ready and plans to decide on them after “Raid 2” releases. He added that he already knows what he wants to work on next, but several factors must align first. “You may want to make a film on a particular script, but you might end up doing something else,” he concluded.

For those who don’t know, “Raid” (2018) featured Ajay Devgn in the lead role, with Ileana D’Cruz and Saurabh Shukla playing key characters. In “Raid 2”, Riteish Deshmukh takes on the role of the antagonist, while Vaani Kapoor steps in to play Ajay’s character’s wife, replacing Ileana. At the trailer launch of “Raid 2”, Vaani addressed the casting change and said she felt no jealousy toward the “previous one,” adding that she shares a great off-screen bond with Ileana.

Ajay Devgn also addressed Vaani replacing Ileana and pointed out that audiences have seen similar casting changes in many Hollywood films before. “Still, Sean Connery is not the only James Bond. It’s the character you follow, and then new people keep coming in,” he added. The makers will release “Raid 2” in cinemas on May 1.
